Doug Clemens 563-590-2441 Saturday, September 19, 2026 Benefit Auction for LCHGS Show Details Benefit Auction for LCHGS 10 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2026 Floral Hall, Lafayette County Fairgrounds 701 E. Louisa St. Darlington, Wis. 53530 LUNCH ON GROUNDS BY: Optimist Club of Darlington (cheese curds, brats & burgers food stand) Kreegs Kandy (snow cones & cotton candy) Laf. Co. Historical & Genealogy Society (fresh popped popcorn & bake sale) EARLY LISTING & ARTICLES/DONATIONS ARE WELCOME UP TO AUCTION DAY The Lafayette County Historical and Genealogy Society will be holding a benefit auction on Saturday, September 19 at the Floral Hall at the Lafayette County Fairgrounds, beginning at 10 a.m. Some of the items that are up for bid at the auction include: gift baskets from area businesses, individuals, and organizations; several handmade quilts (various sizes, styles and designs); antique trunk with inside tray; Budweiser collector steins; beer and alcohol branded bar items; large item and small item soda-pop memorabilia (Pepsi, Orange Crush, A & W, Coca-Cola); Longaberger basket collection; professionally-framed prints; old mustache mugs and vintage shave collection; home interior votive and sconces, vintage toy tractors, trucks, and other similar items; some tools and oddities; guy ‘junk drawer’ items; a large collection of vintage bottle openers (church keys), 1980s vintage spun-glass collection on miniature mirrors; a large seashell collection; collector prints; 2 vintage children’s desks, vintage sewing supplies, wooden computer desks, metal desk, 2 office chairs, library card file, dorm sized refrigerator, 3 corner end tables, Brother label printer (new, never used); brand new CD Sleeves; 8×11 card box; 5-ft photo stand; 2-drawer and 4-drawer filing cabinets, several pieces of office furniture, and older model stoves (Sears, GE). The need: New boilers to heat the Darlington Carnegie Library that houses the offices of the Lafayette County Historical and Genealogy Society, museum and archives of Lafayette County. The 1905 building has hot water radiator heat powered by 31-year-old boilers. The system uses two boilers that support each other but one was failing and the switch between them failed. The old building can’t accommodate ductwork for forced air heat. The copper pipes throughout the building can deliver the heat if new boilers can be installed. Those same copper pipes are also the danger should the heat fail and frozen pipes be the result. New boilers will be installed as a need to further regulate temperatures through all of Wisconsin’s seasons. The boilers will operate much more efficiently, reducing utility bills to a more comfortable level. The mission: It is the continued mission of the Society to collect, preserve, and share the history of Lafayette County’s places, events, and people. Recently the organization restored the Octagon Building at the Lafayette County Fairgrounds, and the 1937 caboose on the tracks beside the Darlington Depot. Their ongoing efforts continue to support the local community. AUCTION SERVICES DONATED BY: TEASDALE-GILL AUCTION SERVICE LLC REG.
