Fostering connections to enhance knowledge and appreciation of the work of the courts A yearly engaging seminar catered for secondary school students SG Courts collaborated with the Ministry of Education to conduct the Issues-Based Seminar for upper secondary social studies teachers. Representatives from 22 schools explored the significant role of the Singapore Courts within society, gaining valuable insights into its functions and interactions with the executive and legislative branches of government. This understanding is crucial for educators as they endeavour to cultivate a nuanced understanding of governance structures and processes among their students. During the seminar, SG Courts provided an overview of their key priorities and programmes, focusing on strategic communications, outreach and engagement efforts, and responsibilities in ensuring access to justice. To deepen participants' understanding of the courts' societal role, the teachers were also guided through a visit to the Heritage Gallery and a courtroom. This comprehensive approach aimed to enhance educators' knowledge and appreciation of the judiciary's integral role in Singapore’s society. This year, in commemorating 200 years of the courts and Singapore's legal system, 200 Secondary 3 students from more than 40 secondary schools took part in the activities designed to enhance their understanding of Singapore's justice system and the role and functions of the courts. Students journeyed through the Bicentennial exhibition, titled "The Charter and the Courts: 200 Years of the Rule of Law in Singapore", tracing key milestones from the establishment of Singapore's first official court to the Judiciary's role in society today. The day ended with a fireside chat where students heard from judicial officers across three courts — the Supreme Court, State Courts, and Family Justice Courts. Our people who collectively make up the Singapore Judiciary embody its mission to ensure the proper administration of justice.
