The northern and southern parts of the campground are separated by a small depression which becomes a creek in heavy rain. You can buy firewood at the campground or at nearby shops in Minnie Water. Illaroo-Sandon Beach is unpatrolled. It has no lifeguard service, dangerous rip currents, sudden drop offs and unexpected large waves. The ocean may look idyllic, but conditions can change rapidly. The safest place to swim is between the red and yellow flags at a patrolled beach. The closest one is Minnie Water . The spacious Illaroo campground is split in two parts – north and south – and offers campsites just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach. Lovely walks including the Angophora Grove walk are nearby and the beach offers an endless array of options – from fishing to swimming to snorkelling. If you’re into canoeing try the nearby and stunning Wooli River and fishing boats can be launched from Minnie Water. In fact, it’s almost too easy to while away your days in this idyllic spot – you’ll never want to leave. Wooli and Grafton are easily accessible if you find you need supplies while camping in this remote area. If you’re thinking of camping with a group, be sure to visit the Illaroo group camping area . Things to do nearby Wooli Wooli River Bring your kayak or paddle board and explore the park's tranquil waterways at your own pace. Keep an eye out for local wildlife – the river banks are lined with mangroves and lots of waterbirds. Angophora grove walking track From the campground, take a leisurely stroll through bushland adorned with old angophoras. If you have the energy, link up with Rocky Point walking track for gorgeous coastal views all the way back to the campground. Head to the beach Illaroo-Sandon Beach is just moments away. Pack your fishing rod – the waters off the park are excellent for jewfish and groper. The closest patrolled beach is at Minnie Water. Stay longer, explore further The historic township of Grafton is a 1 hour drive away. Wander the wide streets and admire heritage architecture, visit the Regional Art Gallery, and if you visit in spring, be prepared for a sea of purple from the blooming jacaranda trees. Explore the coastal village of Wooli, just 15mins away. A haven for water lovers, Wooli offers great swimming, surfing, fishing, kayaking, and diving, and is also renowned for its oysters, best enjoyed fresh from October to April.
